Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Echelon ("we", "us") collects when you use the Echelon application (the "Service"), how it is used, and the choices you have. By connecting your Gmail account to Echelon, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
When you connect your Gmail account, we access:
- Email content — read-only access to messages sent by the financial institutions you use with Echelon (e.g. your bank's transaction-notification emails), including the subject, sender, date, and body of those messages.
- Basic account info — your email address, used to identify your account.
- Transaction data — amounts, dates, merchants, and categories that we extract from the emails above.
Echelon requests read-only Gmail access. We cannot send email as you, and we do not read messages unrelated to transaction notifications.
How we use this information
- To detect and parse transaction-notification emails from supported banks.
- To build and display your transaction history and spending categories within the Service.
- To maintain and improve the reliability of the Service (e.g. diagnosing a parsing failure).
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data.
Data sharing
We do not share your email content or transaction data with third parties, except:
- Where required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf solely to operate the Service (e.g. hosting, database storage), under obligations to protect it.
Data retention
We retain email content and derived transaction data for as long as your account is active, or until you request deletion. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
Security
Access tokens and sensitive data are stored encrypted at rest. Access to production data is restricted to what is necessary to operate the Service. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
Your choices
- Revoke access — you can disconnect Echelon from your Gmail account at any time from your Google Account permissions page, or from within the Service.
- Delete your data — contact us to request deletion of your account and all stored data.
Google user data & API Services
Echelon's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
